RECONSTRUCTION AND EXTENSION OF A MALL. CONCEPT

29 740 m2
The site is in Šilainiai, the northern part of Kaunas, 300m away from the housing district. The plot borders the A1 highway – the main connection between Vilnius and Klaipėda.
The main axis of the composition is “solid” – “soft” – “solid”. The idea of the slit in the wall helps to harmonize the complicated existing composition of the building and to highlight the main entrances. Solid wall “tears” and soft inner substance and light spills out through the slits. The main entrances are highlighted while the sense of solid composition is retained.
The interior of the new part is integrated with the existing areas while maintaining the existing legend – travel through Lithuania. According to the concept of the existing passages three different themes – atmospheres are created: a travel through the AIR, travel through the PATH and travel through the RIVER. While conceptually the new and the old parts are connected, we seek to emphasize the contemporaneity and exclusiveness to the new part of the mall. Clear and hyper-realistic images develop a well readable theme of a travel.
